Well, here goes nothing.

I wanted to try something a little new. So here is the extra credit, it is in the form of a video done by yours truly.

The extra credit will be due by friday. Turn in a 1/2 sheet of paper with your name on it and the answers to the two questions.

Main Idea: Jackson struggled to keep Southern states from breaking away from the Union over the issue of tariffs.

12.2 Jackson's Policy Towards the Native American

Today we discussed the Trail of Tears.

Main Idea: During Jackson's presidency, Native Americans were forced to move west of the Mississippi River.

Chapter 12- The Age of Jackson- 12.1 Politics of the People

A big welcome back from Thanksgiving Break! I will be happy to see your shining faces tomorrow morning/afternoon.

We will be beginning a new Chapter. This will be the final Chapter of the semester, as the final is in 2 weeks =).

Chapter 12.1 Politics of the People is the first section in the Chapter on America's 7th president, Andrew Jackson. This section is about how Jackson was elected and the ways in which he began to change American Democracy.

Today,

I briefly explained Articles 2 and 3 of the Constitution. Article 2 explains the Executive Branch, and Article 3 explains the Judicial branch.

I can tell by the looks on your faces, your eyes rolling in the backs of your heads, and the harsh gasps for air, that MOST of you are struggling with this section. Reading this is a TASK to say the least. With this said, it is a MUST! SO... here are some study pointers.

Focus on the charts, graphs, and pictures FIRST. Read over what each of them have to say. When you do this you are already gathering an idea of what the section will be discussing. 

These charts are especially important because they focus on main ideas. Once you finish with that, you can then begin to read. Take notes, and split your notes into three sections (Article 1(The Legislative Branch), Article 2 (The Executive Branch), and Article 3 (The Judicial Branch).

ALSO! do not hesitate to ask for my help if you are struggling comprehending the material!

We discussed the different powers of the Constitution and their respective checks and balances on the other houses.

As a reminder, this section of the text is the MOST tested on section of the entire book. PLEASE pay close attention.

** to get a little extra points.... draw a chart for the legislative branch, and list the different powers given to this branch as stated in the Constitution. ALSO, write the powers this branch has over the other two branches. This is due 10/9/12

How to Study- October 4th, 2012

In the light of yesterday's test results, Mr. Tarbi and myself have decided that it would be beneficial for all of you to review a study method that you could use for this class.

8th grade is an entirely new ball game when it comes to tests. Reading and studying the material is key. the handout given in class is what will be expected of you in relation to studying.

The homework is:

to write down your questions (step #2) and to recite and outline the sections (Step #4) (refer to the link below)

This might be difficult for many of you, but do not fret we will continue to revisit this.
